Learning Outcomes and Objectives - CBSE Class 2 English Syllabus

  • Read and understand simple English words, sentences and short paragraphs.

  • Listen to and follow simple instructions, poems and stories.

  • Talk about pictures and stories using their own words.

  • Recite poems orally using the proper expression and action.

  • Read short stories and simple books with assistance from a teacher (or parent).

  • Use new English vocabulary when speaking and writing simple sentences.

  • Enjoy reading and have an interest in reading English stories and poems.

  • Participate in talked discussions which can include classroom games and group participation activity.

 Assessment Pattern

In Class 2 English, students are assessed mostly through straightforward and everyday actions than by formal written tests. Ways of assessment include:

 

  • Reading aloud short stories and poems

  • Reciting a poem using the right expression and actions

  • Listening and answering simple questions

  • Describing a picture or telling a little story based on a picture

  • Watching how the student participates in the class discussion or group work

  • Completing very easy worksheets based on the lesson and vocabulary.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Mridang book based on NEP 2020 and NCF 2023 is considerably more engaging, interactive, and theme oriented than older books such as Marigold. It is using pictures, activities, and real life situations, and is child-centric which makes it easier and a natural approach for even  children to learn English.

Yes, basic grammar is included, but not presented as a grammar topic. Through the stories, poems, and all classroom activities children learn sentence making, new words, greetings, punctuation, etc. The focus is on learning through use, not memorising grammar rules.
